Doubts
Over the last few weeks I have been battling with some serious doubts. Doubts about being a good wife, a good mother, a good friend…you name it, I doubted it. I know, hard to believe. Then along comes a song by Seether titled “Rise Above This”. Now Seether is not a christian band, and this song is not for the faint at heart… but the lyrics are very applicable to any believer who struggles with doubt.
It starts with a verse that states
“Take the light, and darken everything around me
call the clouds and listen closely, I’m lost without you”
There are moments when I just want to pull the covers over my head and whisper, “I’m lost without you.” I love the idea of asking God to listen closely. There is a sense of desperation when you ask someone to listen closely. There have been times when my doubts have made me desperate.
The chorus is what spoke to me and gives me a way out of that doubt.
“Call your name every day, when I feel so helpless
I’m falling down, but I’ll rise above this, rise above this.
Call your name every day, when I seem so helpless
I’m fallin’ down, but I’ll rise above this, rise above this doubt.”
What I love, is the reminder to call His name every day. Not just every now and then, but EVERY DAY. To me this is awesome because I seem to have doubts about something every day!
